Past Years

2001

With the success of the youth exchanges, it was decided to start a citizen's exchange. In October 2001 a group from Barrie including former Mayer Janice Laking traveled to Murayama.

The exchanges include formal events as well as site seeing and touring. Due to the success of the “Home Stay” with the youth exchanges, it was decided to include in the citizen exchanges as well.

2016

As we got close to the 20th anniversary, we invited a delegation from Murayama to attend Barrie in 2016 and Barrie would send a delegation in 2017 to mark the anniversary.

2017

A citizen’s delegation from Barrie including Deputy Mayor Barry Ward traveled to Murayama October, 2017. This visit was to celebrate 20 years of friendship and to resign our commitment to continue our friendship agreement.
